Town Museum

Exhibitions 2010

The Town Museum of Riva del Garda is located in one of the city's most interesting buildings, the Rocca. From the time of its construction in 1124, this building was used for defensive purposes. The recent restoration has made it an appropriate setting for the museum's collections which range from an archaeological collection, including finds from the nearby pile-dwellings of Ledro, to a nature section; and from an art gallery, with some paintings by the local artist Giuseppe Craffonara, to materials on the history of Riva in the 1900's. Surrounded by water on four sides, with corner towers framing it, the Rocca offers a different view of Riva. From the terrace of the keep, one can overlook the city, as well as the lake, until getting lost in the water that stretches to the horizon. This view can also be admired from the top of the Apponale Tower which looks down onto the port of Riva, the water and the square being only a few hundred metres from the Rocca.

Museum open: from March to November; info: tel. 0464 573869, www.comune.rivadelgarda.tn.it/museo
